Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) FAQs

  • CBT is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps you identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. It can reduce anxiety, depression, and stress while giving you practical coping tools.

  • CBT helps you see how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. You practice reframing negative thinking, building coping strategies, and applying them in real life.

  • CBT is effective for anxiety, depression, trauma, panic attacks, low self-esteem, stress, and breaking negative thought patterns or habits.

  • Many clients notice improvement within 6–12 sessions, though it varies. CBT provides long-term skills for emotional regulation and problem-solving.

  • Yes. CBT is often blended with IFS, EMDR, or somatic therapy to create a personalized approach that addresses both thought patterns and emotional healing.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) FAQs

  • IFS works by helping you understand and heal the different “parts” within yourself—like the inner critic, the protector, or the wounded child. You learn to listen to these parts with curiosity rather than judgment. Connecting with your core Self helps guide your internal system toward balance and healing.

  • FS can help with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, self-esteem issues, and chronic stress. By working compassionately with your internal parts, IFS helps heal the roots of emotional pain and create lasting inner harmony.

  • Some clients notice positive changes within the first few sessions, such as feeling calmer and more self-aware, while deeper healing often unfolds over several months. Progress depends on your goals, history, and willingness to engage with your internal parts.

  • Yes. IFS can be integrated with CBT, EMDR, somatic therapy, or ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. Combining approaches helps address both emotional and cognitive patterns, process trauma effectively, and develop practical coping skills.

EMDR FAQs

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps your brain process and release distressing memories. It uses guided bilateral stimulation while you recall past experiences, reducing emotional intensity and promoting healing.

  • During EMDR, you focus on a memory while your therapist guides you through eye movements or other bilateral stimulation. This helps the brain reprocess the memory, lowering emotional charge and promoting lasting change.

  • EMDR is effective for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, phobias, and unresolved emotional conflicts.

  • Some clients notice relief after a few sessions, while others may require several months. EMDR is designed for lasting healing rather than quick fixes.

  • Yes. EMDR can be integrated with IFS, CBT, somatic therapies, or KAP to support a holistic approach to healing trauma and developing coping skills.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) FAQs

  • KAP combines the use of ketamine, a legal and FDA-approved medication, with guided psychotherapy to help clients move through emotional barriers, depression, and trauma.

KAP is legal in the state of Ohio, and Soul Awakening offers this modality through a partnership with Journey Clinical.

  • Yes. KAP is safe when administered under professional supervision. Soul Awakening takes on the psychotherapy portion of the experience, with additional oversight provided via Journey Clinical to ensure medical safety and support.

  • KAP may be appropriate for adults experiencing treatment-resistant depression, trauma, anxiety, or other mental health concerns.

Soul Awakening can consider KAP treatment for adults residing in Ohio who passed/cleared the medical evaluation by Journey Clinical.

  • As is the case for all therapy and modalities, KAP is not a “one and done solution.” Rather, there are multiple appointments, assessments and sessions built in. Your sessions will be supported by your psychotherapist and Journey Clinical.

It is recommended to have a few regular psychotherapy sessions after the intake and prior to KAP to build rapport and feel more comfortable with your therapist.

If it’s established that you are a good fit, a referral will be submitted to Journey Clinical for the medical evaluation.

If Journey Clinical’s medical team determines that you are eligible for KAP, they will develop a personalized Ketamine prescription and outcome monitoring plan for you.

Journey Clinical’s medical staff will write a ketamine prescription for you, and a small amount of oral ketamine will be sent to your home, enough for the first 2 KAP sessions. You will be taught to take your vitals and self-administer the ketamine lozenges by Journey Clinical’s medical team in advance of our KAP sessions.

Once the ketamine lozenges are received, we will schedule time for KAP preparation. The goal of this meeting is to align on intentions and understand the process for our KAP session(s).

A typical ketamine dosing session lasts about 2 to 3 hours and will take place via telehealth in your home.

During a dosing session, you will self-administer your ketamine lozenge, while in a comfortable, reclining position wearing an eye mask and listening to a playlist of curated instrumental music. Your therapist will be present with you the entire time to hold space and provide support as needed.

After this initial KAP dosing session, we will meet for multiple integration therapy sessions to review the memories, thoughts & insights that arose during your dosing session, and to prepare for the next dosing session.

After our first KAP dosing session, Journey Clinical’s medical team also schedules regular follow ups with you to monitor outcomes and prescribe ketamine lozenge refills, as appropriate.

  • Yes. KAP is often integrated with IFS, EMDR, or CBT to maximize emotional processing and healing, creating a whole-person therapeutic approach.
